to be loving
August 17th 2006 23:10
hello again!
i have been away but now am back
sorry for any bleep in the system
mmmm...love. what shall i say today?
how can one be loving?
how can we have the capacity to love?
one way of looking at love is to ask:
how do we love?
what is involved ?
it has been said that to experience love is to give to another...give what? material goods? time? services? sex? children? a house to live in?
one way of looking at love is what is given in love is that which is beyond the material...
we can all give material things to another for sure...no, love asks more that the giving of things..in love we give respect, care, responsibility...as an ethical act that underlies all else...love is a way of being-in-the-world
it is an attitude that assumes a ;'us-ness' in the very foundation of our conduct...that we are in it together..that we are made of the same stuff
we cannot assume we know for sure what the other is, needs or wants for we know our own changeable nature and whims..we are a work in progress...but in loving relation, in a state of givingness of us as human beings ... we respect, honour and give space to the other as we do so for ourselves...as an act of loving responsibility...
in this place of givingness we experience the richness of a being-in-love
see you next time!
